Each week, during the sermonic presentation, our leaders have provided great insight into the theme, “Seasons.” We know that winter, spring, summer and fall are all natural seasons those of us dwelling particularly on the East Coast, are mandated to experience. We experience them without consent, and although many express disdain, the seasons continue, and we are forced to comply. We adjust and shift our lives in accommodation and find comfort within the current season.
In my personal time of meditation, reflection, prayer, and bible study, the Lord shared with me about a season called SURRENDER, and how it’s the pre-requisite to seasons of joy, peace, major blessings and miracles. A Season of Surrender, where we no longer complain or resist, we simply submit, accept and adjust to His will, moving forward in total submission and obedience.
SURRENDER….what a weighted word. I bet while reading the word “surrender,” something within you responded. Your shoulders may have relaxed, you closed your eyes or sighed, maybe even paused and took a deep breath. SURRENDER… a word many avoid because it requires relinquishing control. While we’ve witnessed countless examples that prove God has ultimate control, there is an innate response within many of us that still seeks to attempt to exert “control.”
Perhaps if we acknowledged the official definition of surrender, our perspective may change. Surrender is defined- cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority; give up or hand over. Woah! Let's dissect that a little deeper. To surrender, is to stop resisting an enemy or opponent, which raises the question, is God our enemy or opponent? If yes, the lack of surrender is totally warranted, but if not, why do we struggle to submit and surrender? If Christ is indeed our only Lord and Savior, who created EVERYTHING, especially us, why do we challenge His ability to navigate us (His creation) through a world He created. We undoubtedly encounter opposition due to certain decisions we make. However, if He says in His word, repentance offers forgiveness and cleansing from the unrighteous act (1 John 1:9), why not repent and surrender to His way of correction?
Most of us have quoted the infamous Romans 8:28, And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose. Again, I reach down into my purse to present my handy, dandy tool for scripture dissection (LOL) and argue Paul‘s (the writer’s) case. And we know, STOP. When we know something, even if opposed, if we are confident that “we know,” it’s still a matter of fact. Continue… and we know that all things, STOP AGAIN! We know, so we are confident that ALL THINGS… those we agree with and do not, the aspects that bring joy and sorrow, fear or faith, ALL THINGS work TOGETHER. Wait, all these aspects somehow works together, as in partnership? Joy works with sorrow, fear with faith, how? If we never experience sadness, we would not appreciate happiness, the same with fear, which leads to the pursuit of faith. So, if proclaiming with confidence all things work together for our good, because we Love Christ and declare His calling on our lives, we should surrender without hesitance.
God is calling His beloved to a Season of Surrender— to know Him more intimately, access His miraculous blessings, and experience a life of peace in a time of calamity. The key to navigating this time of uncomfortable changes is SURRENDER TO His Holy word and will. We must completely surrender and submit without question. No more partial surrender!
We do not have the details of life, but we do have a Savior whom we can trust to pilot us through. Make the decision in this very moment to COMPLETELY SURRENDER because THAT is the epitome of trusting a God we profess to Love.
