“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalm 46:1-2 (NIV)
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)
Every time you turn on the news or scroll through social media, it feels like the world’s spinning faster and shaking harder. War. Division. Natural disasters. Uncertainty about the future. Some days, it’s honestly a lot to take in. And if we’re being real, sometimes it makes faith feel a little shaky too. You may start to wonder, “God, where are You in all of this?” or “How am I supposed to stay hopeful when everything feels so unstable?”
But here’s the truth: the world may be unstable, but God isn’t. He’s not pacing the floors of Heaven wondering what to do next. He’s steady. He’s faithful. And He’s still in control even when everything around us feels out of control.
When life and the world feel unpredictable, it’s tempting to let fear, frustration, or fatigue take over. But faith isn’t about ignoring what’s happening. It’s about anchoring yourself in the One who never changes. The same God who carried His people through famine, floods, and fiery furnaces is still carrying you. He’s not new to chaos. He’s been calming storms since the beginning of time.
So instead of letting the world’s noise drown out your faith, you can pause and whisper “God, I don’t understand all of this…but I trust You. You’re still my refuge. You’re still good.” That kind of faith, the “I still believe” faith, is what keeps you grounded when everything else is shifting
This past Sunday, Pastor Brown reminded us of something important: “This is the season of preparation.” Now isn’t the time to get distracted or discouraged. It’s time to stay ready, rooted, prayed up, and positioned. She also said, “You can’t mix the Word of God with your own ideology. Once you do, it becomes something other than the Word—something other than the Gospel.”
Whew! That hit me. Because in a world full of opinions, emotions, and shifting values, it’s easy to blend God’s truth with our own logic. But if we want faith that lasts, it has to be built on His Word alone. Not our preferences. Not culture. Not what feels right at the moment. Just His truth.
That’s exactly the kind of faith we see in Shadrach. Meshach, and Abed-nego (Daniel 3). They were living in a culture that bowed to idols. It was a world that pressured them to compromise what they believed. Yet when faced with the fiery furnace, they stood firm and declared: “Our God is able to deliver us…but even if He doesn’t, we will not bow.” That’s preparation. That’s conviction. That’s unshakable faith. They didn’t mix God’s truth with the world’s demands. They stood on the Word and God met them in the fire. And He’ll meet you in yours too.
It’s ok to feel the weight of what’s happening. God doesn’t ask you to pretend it’s easy. But He does ask you to keep your eyes on Him. Because even in a shaky world God’s Word stands firm. His promises still hold. And His peace still covers people. 1 Peter 5:7 says that we can cast ALL of our cares on Him including the weight of uncertainty.
So be encouraged, friend. You’re not walking through this alone. The same God who stood in the furnace with the three Hebrew boys can speak peace to your heart too. Hold on to your faith. Not because everything makes sense, but because He’s still Good.
