What do you do when you’ve been praying for something for so long, but it still hasn’t happened?
The question then becomes: Will it ever happen?
You can pray for something and have faith for it. You can even believe that God is able to do it. And yet, there is still no guarantee that what you’re praying for will happen in the way you desire–or even at all.
But just because something hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it never will.
I believe many of us have experienced that season of life where we’ve prayed and waited, and still haven’t seen the answer we hoped for. After a while, doubt can begin to creep in.
Will this ever happen for me?
Did I hear God correctly?
Should I stop believing?
Sometimes, what God is doing in the waiting is teaching us how to completely trust Him–no matter how long it takes.
What better way for our faith to be tested than to have to trust God when we don't know when or if the answer will come?
Despite how things may look, feel, or appear, we have to continue trusting God. Scripture reminds us that “We walk by faith and not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
My husband recently shared his journey of faith concerning a dream opportunity. He had been believing in God’s faithfulness for over eight years.
Eight years of waiting. Eight years of applications, denials, and rejection.
There were plenty of times he became discouraged and wondered if it would ever happen. But he continued to trust God. And eventually, it happened. He got the job.
His story reminds me that sometimes the answer isn’t no. Sometimes, it’s simply not yet.
We may never understand why certain things we pray for seem to tarry. We may never understand why God allows us to wait as long as we do. But the waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten you. And the delay doesn’t mean He isn't working.
If you’re in a season right now where you are waiting for something you’ve prayed about for a long time, don’t lose heart. Keep praying, believing, and trusting God.
But most importantly, trust God with the outcome. Everything we pray for isn’t guaranteed to happen exactly as we envision it. At the end of the day, God’s will for our lives is greater than our own plans.
So whatever happens, whatever the timing, whatever the outcome–Trust God, no matter what.
