Commitment

The act of committing is to fulfill an obligation that we said we would do.  We can be interested in something and yet not be committed to it. Being interested in something is only for our convenience, but being committed means going without excuses.  Most things fail because of lack of commitment, not lack of desire.  It’s easy to say we love something, but it doesn’t mean anything without commitment.

Commitment goes a long way.  It’s either “Yes” or “No“; we’re either “In” or “Out.”  Committing makes our promises a reality.  When it comes to our jobs, education, or life-changing situations, we must decide and then commit.  No commitment, no success.

Our commitment is our covenant. God wants us to have a covenant with him. Unfortunately, we sometimes take relationships for granted, especially the one with God.  Our relationship with God should be just as important as our relationship with our spouse.  In fact, it should be better.  However, some of us won’t commit because of the fear of…failing, being ridiculed, being responsible.

Failing to invest in relationships can lead to our most serious potential shortfalls.  We have to invest in our relationships in order to reap the rewards.  We must invest in our kids, family, careers, etc.  Most of all, we must invest our time, effort, and service in Christ Jesus.  Commitment leads to action and our actions bring us closer to our goals.

Proverbs 16:3(NIV)-“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
